Email security
Email is a well-known medium for the spread of malicious software known as malware, and spam and phishing mailings sent by fraudsters. Email security measures are designed to protect organisations and employees by combining innovative, evolving methods to keep sophisticated attackers out. All organisations attempt to safeguard their systems to ensure the secure access and content of an email account or service. Unfortunately all of these efforts to protect people result in some well-meaning emails, like those from the Microbiology Society, being directed to ‘trash’, ‘junk’ or ‘spam’ folders in email accounts.
At the Microbiology Society we have undertaken work with our IT supplier to do everything possible to deliver Society emails directly to inboxes – however, keeping organisational emails out of everyone’s junk folders is one of the most complicated parts of distributing mass emails and can fail.
There are some things our members can do to access information they need, including regularly checking 'trash', 'junk' or 'spam' folders for trusted emails and asking your organisation and/or institution's IT support to ‘whitelist’ the Microbiology Society, setting spam filters to prevent emails from certain organisations being sent to your junk folder and allowing them through.
