75th anniversary: Microbiology Images
25 March 2019
As part of the celebrations for our anniversary, we invite the microbiology community to submit images related to the microbiological world to help highlight how microbiology answers big questions by giving us knowledge of very small things. We welcome images of your science, of nature, of people, places and events that will inspire, inform and demonstrate how the study of microbes helps us to understand our world and our place within it.
To celebrate our 75th anniversary in 2020, we invite members to nominate the discovery or event that best showcases why microbiology matters and helps us demonstrate the impact of microbiologists past, present and future.

We know microbes are very diverse, they are fascinating and modern imaging techniques show they can be very beautiful. We would like to give others in the field a glimpse of your research, your collaborations and the science of microbiology. We are looking for significant high-quality photos such as a eureka moment in your lab, or a process you have been able to capture using imagery, a microscopical photo that shows the structure of the microbe you work on, a special encounter or a meeting with one of your heroes.
Share your involvement on Twitter using the hashtags #MicroImages and #MicrobioSoc75th.
Other events and activities taking place in our anniversary year including nominations of ideas for Why Microbiology Matters, our Sustainable Future Project on the role of microbiology and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, a celebration of microbiology in literature and a showcase of Fleming Prize winners.
