Early drug treatment may cure HIV in new-borns

Given within hours of birth, treatment with a cocktail of widely available drugs, known as antiretroviral therapy, already used to treat HIV infection in infants, has effectively eradicated the virus in a young girl. Two and a half years down the line, the virus is undetectable in the patients system. While the findings are promising, it remains to be seen if this form of treatment can provide long-lasting remission.
