UKRI: Draft EDI Strategy Inquiry
In our response, we highlight that while the strategy shows UKRI’s commitment towards embedding EDI in its organisation, the strategy does not set out a truly revolutionary vision to make the sector more equitable overall. Quotes and a case study are included to illustrate the unacceptable challenges that some researchers currently face when applying for UKRI funding.

Vulnerable Skills
The BBSRC and MRC, in association with the Society of Biology, held a consultation to identify vulnerable skills and capabilities within the biosciences. The Microbiology Society, working with the Society for Applied Microbiology, submitted evidence highlighting vulnerable skills concerning microbiology.

The Microbiology Society has published a position statement entitled ‘Safeguarding the Future of the Microbiology Research and Innovation Workforce’, calling for employers, funders and governments to prioritise and better support early career microbiologists (ECMs).
